Q: ive been hospitialized with a duodenal ulcer and on pantoloc for it,will it ever be safe to drink beer again?
doctor says i'll be on medication (pantoloc) for life,i was in hospitial 2003 and again 2005 with ulcer problem, second time was bleeding ulcer
A: Barring any setbacks, the ulcer should heal without much problem if you are a healthy guy. Many, many people have small ulcers and may not even have symptoms. When the ulcer gets to the point where it bleeds, it's a fairly deep ulcer. It bleeds because it has reached the level of tissue where your blood vessels are. Alcohol is a huge culprit to contribute to ulcers forming. It is very irritating to you whole digestive system actually. I'm not a doctor, but once all the ulcers are healed and the irritation to your stomach and small intestine (duodenum is the first part of the small intestine) is gone, you may be able to enjoy a beer or two per night without much difficulty. The issue become mixing beer and smoking and certain foods. The best choice obviously would be to stop drinking, but realistically, you definitely don't want to drink until your doctor clears you and you are finished with your medications.
Q: Pantoloc while pregnant?....?
OK, well here's the thing.. I'm not sure if I'm pregnant yet... my HPTs keep coming up negative but I've missed my monthly visitor and I've been getting what I believe are some symptoms of being pregnant... sick feeling after eating at night and having to pee all the time.... and certain smells just make me absolutly nausious... I know I should go to the doctor, but I have to wait till I can finally have a day off work to do so....
anyways I was just wondering if anyone knew if being on Pantoloc would be bad when you're pregnant or think you are....?
Pantoloc, is a prescription my doctor gave me because I get really bad tummy problem if I have certain foods, and the attacks sometimes come on randomly...
A: This is what the Pantoloc website had to say:
Use in Pregnancy
There are no adequate or well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Pantoprazole sodium should not be administered to pregnant women unless the expected benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus (see also information under REPRODUCTION AND TERATOLOGY).
I would say dont take it just in case. :)
Q: can i take pantoloc and st.john's wort?
A: i am guessing pantoloc is a drug
and although st johns wort is something natural i was told
you could not take st johns wort together with other meds
check out www.curezone.com for other natural treatments
Q: Do Acid Blockers really have dangerous side effects?
I have been prescribed 40mg of Pantoloc (a Protein Pump Inhibitor) twice a day.
I was looking online that: stomach acid is needed for the absorption of vitamin B12 and if I take this will it make me stop absorbing B12 (which is important for nerves).
What about absorption of Calcium, magnesium and irons?
A: It does prevent some of it from being absorbed.
But it isn't really enough to bother with.
They have have a supplement OTC called "Rx essentials" for Prilosec, nexium, prevacid.
Q: Upper right abdominal discomfort, what could it be?
I've had liver fucniton tests, x-rays, other blood tests, urine sample tests, ulta sound of entire abdomen, given meds for possible peptic ulcer (three weeks on pantoloc no change). I'm 23 years old, normal body functions, tons of energy, not constipated, eat healthy, take all my vitamins............ Beats the hell out of me whatever is going on!!!
Been checked for gall stones......I like to drink though if that could cause a prob.........
A: Is it a sharp pain? Is it roughly a few hours after eating? Could be some kind of digestion problem. Being that they were treating you for a peptic ulcer makes me believe that they were looking at digestion too.
A simple measure you could try, and I have done myself with some success, is change a small portion of your diet to see if you can isolate a problem there.
For instance, for about a week try cutting out gaseous food items like broccoli, milk, onions, cauliflower, eggs and large amounts of any dairy products like yogurt and cheese. See if things improve.
If they don't, put those items back into your diet and for a week try removing heavy items like beef, large amounts of bread, pasta, nuts, and stick to lighter meats like chicken and fish along with light salads.
Lastly, I would try cutting out any spicy food altogether during these different diet tests. Spicy foods are not necessary for good health and that would be one less variable you would have to worry about.
Try to mix and match some of the items you eat and leave out others. Usually a week is enough time to determine if their is an improvement.
I quickly found out that even though I didn't know what was causing my pain, I had an idea that it was indigestion related and cutting out the milk/onions did wonders for my abdominal pain.
Side note, I am not a medical doctor and my advice should not be taken strictly as a cure. Also, do not stray too far from what I have outlined here and make sure all changes are ok with your physician.
Good luck!
Q: For: Doctors, Pharmacists, or People with Ulcers?
I am taking Pantoloc for a stomach ulcer, but its really expensive, so I am wondering, after the ulcer is resolved can I take Tums three times a day to prevent a new one from forming? Is it safe? Is it too much Calcium to be taking? B/c hypercalcemia is not good either.
A: There are many over-the-counter alternatives to Pantolac for treating your stomach ulcer, including Maalox, Mylanta, Gaviscon, Pepcid or Zantac, which do not contain the high calcium content of Tums.
That said, I would strongly recommend you talk to your doctor before abandoning the Pantolac and beginning an alternative course of treatment. Good luck and be well. :)
Q: What medication is more effective in G.E.R.D?
Which of the two are more effective Nexium or Pantoloc? Or are they basically the same?
A: It can very from patient to patient. What works for your neighbor might not work for you.
Start with what's cheapest.
Q: Blurry vision caused by SSRIs and bupropions - is this possible?
It seems that my vision is getting worse and worse. I had an eye examination done in November and my eyesight had worsened. I got brand new glasses in January, and soon after noticed that most of the time I have a hard time seeing. Things get blurry randomly. Sometimes things very close to me are hard to see. Sometimes things very far away from me are hard to see. Sometimes the light is so bright that I get a headache, even though my glasses are slightly tinted. Other times everything is far too dark.
I'm taking;
Wellbutrin SR
Paxil (have taken Celexa, Effexor, Cipralex)
Ritalin (have taken Adderall)
Pantoloc
Triquilar
Benadryl
Vitamin D and Omega-3 supplements.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I think it may be the anti-depressants that are doing this as my vision got worse as my prescriptions got changed or dosages played around with. I have no idea though, really.
This is very disconcerting. My eyesight is bad enough as it is; I'm almost legally blind!
A: One of the side effects of Paxil is blurred vision, while Wellbutrin can cause dilation of the pupils. Pantoloc has been known to very rarely cause blurred vision. Since Benadryl is available over the counter, be sure your physician is aware that you take it, and how often that you do. It can effect blood levels of other medications and change their effects. You should contact your doctor since you are experiencing the vision problems.
Q: hiatail hernia . i think thats what it is . hurts bad in centre of chest?
i do have this hiatial hernia. i pronoce it hieeteesh hernia anyway i take pantoloc for it . but i have this massive pain in my chest right in the centre at or just below the centre of the bottom of my rib cage this pain hurts bad . how do i get rid of it. tylenol 3 dont do anything
A: Pantoloc is a treatment for the stomach infection H.Pylori. You should be on a course of treatment which includes antacids and antibiotics. If you still have the pain, go back to the doctor. the treatment you are taking should stop the pain.
The hiatus hernia is a different problem, although it will not help as it causes gastric reflux.
Q: Reflux Pain Gallstones??How do you know??Short Time of Fever and Chills..then goes .odd! Pain comes and goes!?
I had a bought of 'fever and chills' earlier this evening, then they went away. I called Ttelehealth Ontario on their free 1-800 number. Not much help there, they told me to go to EMERG. Typical answer.
My urine is not dark, and I took some Ranitidine with milk as I am totally out of Pantoloc and Pariat. No vomiting or nausea. The pain comes and goes under my right rib area, not in my shoulders. I am constantly rubbing the area, I tried an ice pack, and BEN GAY, that remedy just irrates the area in question. It's a strong nasty pain like someone sticking a knife into you, it comes and goes. Caffeine irrates it too, so do Cheezy's or anything spicey, Bad foods that I eat. Yes I am overweight as well, not a drinker but a smoker and am 44 years old and very tall!!
Help!! I live in the only modernized city n the world that does NOT have a hospital in the downtown core-Ottawa Canada, very difficult to get to if you dont have a car and live alone. So I suffer at home late at night.
A: Could very well be gall stones...although gallstones do not usually produce a fever. Sounds like you have a history of GI problems given the drugs you have available. It is very possible to have ulcers and/or diverticuli that become infected and cause the type of pain that you describe with fever. The products that are exacerbating the pain would do so with either. A bad gall bladder will in addition to pain cause flatulence and belching. You are the right age for either problem. STOP SMOKING!!! That is the worst thing you can do if you have stomach problems. Milk is not good for either gall bladder or ulcerative problems as it increases the production of stomach acid and phlegmy secretions. Your symptoms do suggest that medical intervention is eminante. Good luck and God Bless!
Q: Experience with H. pylori treatment?
I've been given two antibiotics (amoxicilin and clarithromycin) and one PPI (pantoloc) for my ulcer. It works for the most part but I'm really anxious and worried about this because it's made my life (and my summer) miserable and I really don't want it to return. So, I have a few questions:
How long will the side effects last?
How effective is the treatment?
What is the rate of recurrence? (I really dont want to go through the suffering again)
A: I haven't had the treatment, so I can't answer all your questions. However, my mother had the treatment and it worked wonders for her.
She spent at least 20 years swigging milk and eating mylanta before H. pylori was discovered as the cause of many ulcers. She was treated probably 10 years ago and I never really see her take stomach medication any longer. So I would say it was extremely successful for her and she hasn't had a recurrence.
Good luck.
Q: info and cure for a non H.pylori duodenal ulcer?
my doctor has me on 2. 40mg pantoloc a day for life and am told this ulcer is hereditary with no h,pylori infection.i can't find a cure for this on the internet
A: I'm sorry, but if the doctor can't find a cure, you won't find one on the Internet either. I wish I could give you more info. I will look it up though and see what I can find for you
OK, this is what my nursing dictionary says. First. it is the most common of peptic ulcers and I will give a direct quote, "Peptic ulcer is a sharply circumscribed loss of the mucous membrane of the stomach or duodenum or of any other part of the gastrointestinal system exposed to gastric juices containing acid and pepsin. They may be acute or chronic. Acute lesions are almost always multiple or superficial. They may be totally without symptom and usually heal without scarring or other sequelae. Chronic ulcers are true ulcers; they are deep, single, persistent, and symptomatic; the muscular coat of the wall of the organ does not regenerate, a scar forms, marking the site, and the mucosa may heal completely."So that's all the info for now. There's more, but to many medical words. Hope this is enough.

A: You have got to be kidding! You really believe these drugs are going to cure your problem? Oh, wait, the drug companies, and there are literally hundreds of them, are telling you this is an incurable disease, right?
This is the most unbelievable farce ever jammed down American's throat. The drug companies know what is really causing the problem and how to fix it, but they sold approximately $50 billion dollars worth of the garbage you listed in your question last year. Why would they want to stop that cash flow and do something very simple and stop the so called disease they've given a fancy name to, "gerd."
I cannot believe drug companies would actually do this to people.
So called "Acid indigestion" or acid reflux is a result of rotting, undigested, fermenting food that is not getting broken down in the stomach because there is not enough stomach acid. When the food starts to rot, LACTIC ACID is produced and this is what is causing the problem, NOT stomach acid.
When you take one of those brilliantly conceived antacids, acid is neutralized, both stomach acid and the lactic acid. Now the rotting, undigested, fermenting pile of food moves down the intestines and produces toxins, compacts the colon area and overloads the liver and kidneys with toxins. Additionally, your calcium, magnesium, and zinc do not get digested! These three minerals are normally absorbed in the jejunum (upper part of the small intestine), but ONLY if the pH is low from the acidic stomach as it lets the minerals pass into the jejunum. If you've taken that antacid, the pH is high and these minerals will not get digested. One of the best jokes of all time is when Tums puts Calcium Carbonate (blackboard chalk) in their product. All this does is pass on through because Tums has raised the pH and the calcium now becomes a toxin the liver has to get rid of. Many kidney stones have been caused by this garbage!
The next time you get acid indigestion, do the following and you will be amazed at how fast the problem goes away.
Go to: www.healthline.cc (not .com) and purchase the following:
Betaine HCL --- take 2 to 4 of these after your meal.
Activator --- take 1 to 2 of these after your meal.
Quantum Digest --- take 1 to 2 of these with your meal.
Nucleotides --- take 6 of these per day.
Pink Sea Salt --- take 1 tsp. per day on food. (get rid of the white, blanched, table salt you are using. It's garbage)
Probiotic --- take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening with keifer milk.
The HCL and Activator will stop the acid reflux or acid indigestion in less than 3 minutes. The reason is that this acid is digesting your food, killing the nano bacteria that can cause heart disease and the one that causes diabetes type II.
The digest provides the digestive enzymes that have been cooked out of your food.
The nucleotides will boost your immune system to help heal any issues you have created by using the drugs.
The probiotics will replenish the good bacteria in your intestines and help get rid of the bad bacteria you have been building up by using the antacid garbage.
The pink sea salt is loaded with minerals and the cl- ion from the salt will help you generate your own HCL from your body.
I buy the above by the case from the company listed above. The HCL costs about $11 for a month's supply. Compare that cost with what the other antacid garbage costs from your favorite drug company. Now add the additional costs for the other drugs you are buying to fix the diarrhea or constipation. Now add the cost of the osteoporosis drugs and heart drugs due to the damaged liver, kidney, and gall bladder from the other drugs.
Try this and you won't believe how it will fix your problem.
Drug companies know that as we age, we produce less and less stomach acid. Rather than fixing the problem inexpensively, they choose the other route. At age 70, you will only be producing about 5% of what you did at 25 - 30. It's no wonder older people become severely nutrient deficient.
Additionally, this is the reason people start putting on weight around the middle because they are not digesting their food like they did when they were younger.
You will also notice that your bowels will be moving much better and you will become more regular.
One more benefit from nourishing your body rather than abusing it with drugs is that you will add about 30 - 35 years to your life expectancy by doing the above. The HCL and Activator re-methylate your cells like eating raw, uncooked food does.
good luck to you
Q: acid reflux.help.burn!?
why does my stomach burn from reflux so much?i know what i've done to cause it (starving myself, stressing myself to point of attacks, polyp development in my stomach), but it burns BADLY, or am i just complaining to much?other people say they have acid reflux too, but never seem to suffer or complain like i do. are there different degrees of acid reflux, or am i just overreacting??could i possibly change my medication? (i take about 80g pantoloc everyday and it doesnt do shit for me)
A: Stop eating unhealthy greasy foods that promote acid reflux. Believe me, that’s not the only problem that will go away if you eat healthy. Avoidance of spicy foods, coffee, peppermints, and so on certainly can help some people. Try searching for homeopathic remedies products that will help you to cure heartburn or acid reflux naturally.
Q: what is causing my chest pain?
I am 24 years old slightly overweight and I have been getting chest pains in the breast bone area and near my arm pit and down the left side now for about 6 months on and off. I also have a feeling of pressure under my left rib bone that gets very uncomfortable at times and I usually have to change positions or get up and walk around to try and get rid of it.. Ill also get a bulge under my left rib after I eat...I dont no if the two are connected because I can have one discomfort without the other.. I was originally told it could be due to acid reflux and since then have been put on Pantoloc to help the problem. Except Its not helping! It seems to happen more frequently after I drink alcohol, eat chocolate, or drink pop. I have went and had a ekg done and was told my heart looks normal.. Im am getting concerned that they are missing something important. does anyone have any idea on what could be causing me this pain
I have been to the doctors twice! have had to EKG's done and blood test and all came back normal... my doctor thinks its anxiety thats causing me the trouble.... but should I feel panicky if its anxiety?
A: your symptoms suggest mainly two disease i.e
MI (heart attack)
peptic ulcer disease
since (ecg) is normal, MI is mostly out. though observation required.
the second, pantoloc will help , you need some dietary modifications.
get an x-ray done or/ and gastric function test
consult a doctor.
