Q: The organic compound ramipril found in Altace question?
I'm writing a report on ramipril and I need to know the source of the compound. Is it a natural compound or manufactured? What environment does it come from? I know that Kings pharaceuticals manufactures Altace but it doesnt say the process of how its made. Does anyone know a good link to get this information?
A: No, it is not natural product, even though it is an amino acid derivative. Natural products are compounds found in nature that already have pharmacological activity.
The synthesis was first described by Volker Teetz, and I have provided the articles below:
Title: Synthesis of Unnatural Amino-Acids - (S,S,S)-2-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane-3-
carboxylic acid
Author: V Teetz, et al.
Published: Tetrahedron Letters [0040-4039] yr:1984 vol:25 iss:40 pg:4479-4482
Another good article that outlines the entire synthesis of ramipril:
Title: Synthesis of a Highly Active Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme-Inhibitor - 2-[N-[(S)-1-ethoxycarbonyl-3-
phenylpropyl]-L-alanyl]-(1S,3S,5S)-2-
azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane-3-carboxylic acid
Author: V Teetz, et al
Published: Arzneimittel Forschung [0004-4172] yr:1984 vol:34-2 iss:10B pg:1399 -1401
These two articles are going to be your best source. I also located a new synthesis that was recently patented. You can find it here: http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2005121084&IA=WO2005121084&DISPLAY=DESC
Hope this helps.

A: Why do chemistry people constantly post in maths? Please repost and look at what subject you are posting in :)
Q: Is 20mgs of lisinopril equal to 10 mgs of altace ?
I am trying to determine if the doctor increased my dosage when she changed my medicine from altace to lisinopril or if 10mgs of altac is equivalent to 20 mgs of lisinopril
A: Based on the HOPE trial, 10mg Lisinopril is approximately equivalent to 2.5 mg of altace (ramipril). 10mg of altace would approximately be 40mg lisinopril. So it seems the doctor lowered it. But note 20 mg Lisinopril is the normal effective dose given to people with high blood pressure. Any higher dose of lisinopril does not have much of an additional effect.
Q: Is altace a beta blocker?
I dont really understand Why I need this drug. I did have two heart attacks just would like to understand. Doc confusses me or I am getting confused easy in any case Maybe you could help.
A: Ramipril is prescribed in selected cases of heart attacks to control the blood pressure both in supine and standing positions without significant alteration in the pulse rate.
Q: does altace high blood pressure med make you sleep if you drink?
my friend started taking high blood pressure meds and when he drank beer he slept most of the day also drank whisky
A: mixing alcohol and drugs is NOT a GOOD/EXCELLENT IDEA. DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE.
Q: If I take Levitra, will it have problems if I have high blood pressure which is controlled by Altace?
A: As long as you have a doctor prescribing Levitra you should be fine. As you know, Levitra can cause your blood vessels to enlarge and your blood pressure can fall. This is a big problem for people on nitrogycerin pills. I would start on the lowest dose of Levitra and see how it goes. You should be fine.
Q: Can cozaar be a substitute for altace?
A: Cozaar and Altace are similar medicines in that they both work through the kidneys to lower blood pressure and help reduce the workload of the heart. Ask your doctor before switching medicines, as there can be a specific reason to be on one over the other.
Q: can you take viagra or levitra while taking altace for high blood pressure?
A: You can take Viagra while taking medication for high blood pressure.. Viagra was originally a medication for high blood pressure.

A: Zestril is a brand name for Lisinopril.
Altace is a separate medication and not same as Zestril (lisinopril).
All of these medications are in the ACE Inhibitor category of Anti-Hypertension medications.
If you have questions about medications you are or considering taking, please consult with your physician. It's the safest thing you can do.
Q: Help with weight and Altace?

A: my gma take altace and its hard for her to loose weight...hmmm....maybe it is related. its worth asking a DR.
Q: I have type 2 diabetes my reuslts were 9.1 on the 3 month test. Do you know what altace 2.5mg will do for?
altace what will it do for my kidney's. They say they are damaged from my sugar being so high for so long and not taking care of it. I just found out before Christmas this past year. I am doing much better now with my counts. They are staying between 106 and 130 for the high end. Much better than in the 500 range where I was. I have lost 30 pounds and still working on losing more. I am looking for some knowledge from all of you on ways to help get healthier and on the altace I am taking for my kidney's. Thanks everyone who takes the time.
A: Altace is a member of the class of drugs called an ace-inhibitor. Ace stands for angio-tension converting enzyme. This enzyme is naturally produced in the kidneys and is used to increase blood flow to the kidneys when needed. The enzyme causes blood vessels to constrict (shrink) all over the body making less area for the blood thus increasing blood pressure. The kidney (and eyes) have the smallest vessels in the body and people with high blood pressure can break these tiny vessels or clog them (they can't keep up with the flow). The kidneys get tricked into thinking a person has low blood flow and release the enzyme (ace) to increase pressure, when in reality high blood pressure is causing the problem to begin with. In your case Altace will keep your pressure lower to prevent further damage to your kidneys and prevent your damaged kidneys to not be tricked into thinking they need an increase in pressure.
Keep your blood sugar in check as much as you can. Test frequently and learn what foods have the most effect on your sugar. Also loosing the weight is a great idea. In addition look into either the diet that the A.D.A. has or Med-2000 . These diets will keep you trim but more important help keep your blood-sugar in range. Good luck!
Q: Vets or Pharmacists... please help! Cat bit into Altace (10mg) capsule.?
My 12 yr. old cat bit into a 10mg Altace capsule about an hour ago. She spit it out (apparently didn't like the taste) and she's eating and drinking. Can anyone tell me if I need to worry? If so, what should I look for? What can I do?
A: I recommend calling an emergency vet clinic in your area. They'll answer any questions and tell you what to look out for. People can claim to be whatever they want online, and I wouldn't trust answers unless I was certain as to the source. You'll get responses ranging from "It's fine, don't worry" to "OMG!!!! GET TO THE VET NOW OR YOUR CAT WILL DIE!!" You will be left scratching your head trying to sort through it all to decide who's credible. Please call a reliable source. If you can't find an emergency vet clinic in your area to call, you can always call the ASPCA animal poison control center at (888) 426-4435. They may or may not charge a fee for a consult. Here's a link to their website:

Q: I would like to find out if heart medications can be taken with Advil tablets?
I had a heart attack and bypass surgery done before Thanksgiving last year would like to find out about drug interactions of Altace, Lipitor, Levothyroxine, and furosemide have with Advil tablets.
A: An important thing to do is to use one pharmacy. In that way the pharmacist knows all of your medications.
You should ask your pharmacist and/or cardiologist that question. Your medical history is such that you do not need incorrect answers and guesses. Do not rely on this forum to give you answers.
That said you can find out some of the answers by yourself in addition to your cardiologist or pharmacist.
When you get a medication it comes with some statements about the medication such as how to use it, what to do if you miss a dose, when to take it and its major and minor complications. Read this information and keep them in a folder for reference.
Go to a good search engine such as Yahoo or Google and separately place the name of each medication together with words side effects. You will learn a lot.
Remember that no one has as much at stake about your safety and health as you do.
Get the expert advice, not hearsay and also do your own research.
Q: Which has the least side effect? Altace, Micardis, Coversyl?
A: Hi Jessica
I don' t think I can really answer that one for you because it very much depends on each individual person.
Some people feel absolutely fine on all three of these drugs. Some react badly to all three.
Most people will be comfortable on one or two of them but not the other. There's no way to predict who is going to react and in what way. You really just need to try each drug and see how it goes.
None of them normally have serious side effects and if side effects do occur they normally go away again after only a day or so of stopping the medication.
I hope this helps - sorry I can't be more specific.
Best regards
Gordon
Q: What type of doctor can help with poor circulation in legs?
I have two problems: (1) a reaction to the blood pressure medicine Diovan and (2)After taking a airline flight I am having problems with the circulation in one of my legs.
Problem 1- After taking blood pressure medicine called Diovan, it has caused me to itch, break out in a rash and my joints ache. I was taking Altace and it causes me to cough therefore, my doctor recently gave me Diovan. I also had a chemical reaction to the blood pressure medicine called Norvas whereby, I broke out in a rash, blood spots and joint pain and I had to stop taking Norvas. My doctor is on vacation and the physician's assistant does not believe me when I told them I can't take this blood pressure medicine. What causes this?
Problem #2: After an airline flight I experienced numbness in one leg. The numbness has lasted more than 2 weeks. It has caused numbness in my thigh, calf, and knee area. My leg is also in pain when I try to use it. I can barely bend my knee.
A: See a cardiologist or even an ER for leg pain like that after sitting for a long time. It can be very dangerous. Don't wait a long time for an apointment.
As far as hypertension. I will give you the advice my dr gave me. Take the older tried and true meds. They have been on the market long-term and we KNOW they are safe. We know they work. Don't play with the new stuff. Let the drug companies make their millions off of another guinea pig, not you. I still take plain Lasix and Inderal. OLLLLLDDDDDDD drugs, but effective. Whenever some new "specialist" wants to switch me to the "newer more effective" crap, I just refuse. I remember what my old GP said. It is true. And if it's not broke, don't fix it.
