Q: How do doctors treat tacchycardia as a side effect of seroquel xr?
My Psychiatrist prescribed me seroquel xr about a month ago; it has made my resting heart rate go from about 80 to between 90 and 110. I know it can't be healthy to constantly have my heart rate so fast. What are some of the most common ways doctors treat this? Should I even consult my primary doctor or just tell my psychiatrist?
A: They take you off the Seroquel and put you on another drug of the same class.
I had the same problem as you when my doc tried Geodon in order to diminish the weight gain I had when on Seroquel. I ended up back on Seroquel because I tolerate it well.
Both of your doictors need to know of your side effects so they can report it to the FDA.
I would go back to the psychiatrist for a different antipsychotic, personally.
Q: Is Seroquel a bad medication if you have a heart condition?
I have Bipolar and Cardiomyopathy. My Cardiologist doesn't want me taking Seroquel but I can't seem to get enough info to back it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
A: Geodon is the only atypical antipsychotic that I've heard as having a link to heart problems. People with prolonged QT intervals should avoid it. I'm certainly not a heart expert, though. Check with your pdoc and ask your cariologist more questions including whether any APs would be on his okay list. Maybe get a second opinion if you are running out of other mood stabilizer options.
Q: What side affects would seroquel have on a fetus where the mother was pregnant ?
Is there a street drug during 1964-1965 that would have had similar chemical components ? Have any who are prescribed seroquel had issues with their legs or heart ?
To me this is a suicide drug in the wrong hands, and in a mother's home, a child protection issue. I have heard Seroquel is being taken to court. Does anyone have an internet link to this court issue ? I invite your comments.
hypotension:The vagus descends from the spinal cord in the carotid sheath, lateral to the carotid artery. It carries on past the aortic arch to dip inferiorly behind the left bronchus. Here it forms the pulmonary plexus, after giving rise to the recurrent laryngeal nerve.
The vagus nerve supplies motor parasympathetic fibers to all the organs except the suprarenal (adrenal) glands, from the neck down to the second segment of the transverse colon. The vagus also controls a few skeletal muscles, namely:
Levator veli palatini muscle
Salpingopharyngeus muscle
Palatoglossus muscle
Palatopharyngeus muscle
Superior, middle and inferior pharyngeal constrictors
Muscles of the larynx (speech).
This means that the vagus nerve is responsible for such varied tasks as heart rate, gastrointestinal peristalsis, sweating, and quite a few muscle movements in the mouth, including speech (via the recurrent laryngeal nerve) and keeping the larynx open for breathing.
Conversely, psychosis can occur in persons without chronic mental illness, as a result of an adverse drug reaction or extreme stress
A: The possibility of harm to a developing baby has not been ruled out. You should take Seroquel during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh this potential risk. Remember to notify your doctor as soon as you become pregnant or decide to become pregnant.
It is not known whether Seroquel appears in breast milk, and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Q: Can taking seroquel cause depersonalization and derealization?
After taking seroquel, 100mg every night, I experience a feeling of seperateness from other people and events. The feeling is accompanied by anxiety and panic. Is this depersonalization and derealization? Is it caused by the seroquel? Is it a side effect of seroquel and will it eventually go away?
A: i take 400 mg. of seroquel and it has never happened to me. although i do suffer from depersonalization and derealization. it is usually caused by severe anxiety. the anxiety and panic that you mentioned are probably the cause of what you are experiencing. if you are still concerned contact your pharmacist and see what he/she has to say about it.
Q: How much seroquel do most people take?
I was wondering how much seroquel the average bipolar patient receives a day. Is 200 mg enough?
A: I know someone who takes 200mg in the dag, and 400 at nite
Q: My doctor is switching me from Klonopin to Seroquel. How do I manage getting off the Klonopin?
Is the starting dosage of Seroquel (100 mg. for 2 days, the 200 mg. for 2 days and 300 for 2 days) taken at night be OK? Will I still be able to work and what do I do about Klonopin possible withdrawl? This is all for anxiety/mood disorder issues.
A: Many years ago, my new shrink made the identical change of meds for me because he did not want to see me addicted to klonopin. I don't know what your dosage is for klonopin, but it could take weeks or months to taper off it safely without very bad withdrawal symptoms.
Your case may be different, but I will tell you my experience. My first month on seroquel was fine, but the 2nd month was terrible. My hips became very stiff, and just walking down the street was difficult (and I do stretching & yoga 7 days a week). My feet and ankles swelled up like balloons (edema). At the end of two months, I had put on 20 pounds. For me, seroquel was a very bad drug. However, as you probably know, people can react very differently to psych meds. You might have a much better experience than I did.
I wound up stopping seroquel and going back on klonopin. If you do decide to taper off klonopin, do so VERY slowly. Again, you might have to taper off for weeks or even months.
Klonopin is in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. You and your shrink might consider a benzo that has a shorter half life than klonopin. Also, buspar is an anti-anxiety drug that is not an addictive benzo. That might be a possibility for you. Email me if you have any questions.

Q: How much weight can i expect to lose if i quit Seroquel?
I've been taking Seroquel since September 15,2008. Before taking Seroquel i was 135 pounds. I now weigh 185 pounds. I don't know if this helps you figure it out but i'm an African American female, 30 years old.
A: Hi Q!
I know that seroquel does cause weight gain, but I didn't think by that much, wow, I'm so sorry. What you can do though, is talk to your doctor about it, because many physicians don't keep their patients on seroquel, bacause of the weight gain, but only as a starter drug, or maintainance drug(sometimes that along with another drug, when you are really feeling bad), if you have a tough episode. I would surely speak to you dr., to see if you could be switched to lamictal(brand name drug), or lamotrigine(the generic brand), these don't come with the weight gain side effects. I do hope you could be switched, but either way, to lose some weight, read back through my posts of other questions, you'll find loads of weight loss info! I hope this helps! Good luck!
Q: How can I get seroquel out of my system?
After waking up in the morning after taking 150mg of seroquel I feel INCREDIBLY tired, dull, and sluggish. Is there anything I can do to negate these effects??
A: RED BULL AND STACKERS*#&$@()*
Q: How long does a person have to be taking seroquel for it to show up in lab tests?
How long does a person have to be taking seroquel for it to show up in lab tests?
cbc, liver, thyroid, urinalysis, etc.
tests being given to my daughter.
A: Any significant clinical dose would most likely show up on a test if your daughter took it the day of or possibly the day before the test. The half life of Seroquel is 6 hours. That means that this takes 6 hours for half the drug to be excreted from the system. So within 12 hours, most of the drug should be out of her system. Also, if she has been on Seroquel for a while, the drug will be in her system longer, therefore taking a probably close to 2 days to be fully out of her system.
Q: What are the effects on a newborn whose mom took seroquel while pregnant?
My niece took Seroquel the entire time she was pregnant and I am concerned about the baby.
A: Clearly, your niece's doctor felt it was a risk not to take the Seroquel. Studies have shown birth defects in animals, however, the same results have not apparently occurred in humans. Does that mean it is safe and doesn't cause problems long term. Don't know. The biggest risk to your niece is gestational diabetes (due to the Seroquel) and that can add to problems.
Q: is seroquel and serlift afecting the development of the fetus in a normal way?
Is it true that I have to take a 1 year pause of taking seroquel and serlift if I want to make a flawless baby?
A: "Treatment with Seroquel is intended for adults 18 years of age or older who are not pregnant and are not thinking of becoming pregnant."1
"There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women and quetiapine (Seroquel) should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus."1 Seroquil does in some cases result in fetal abnormalities in lab animals. Lab animals may or may not be representative of human fetal development in toxicology studies. Seroquil is also noted for lab animal decreases in fertility rates among males and females. I've seen no indication suggesting you need to wait 1 year after therapy.
"Pregnancy: Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they become pregnant or intend to become pregnant during therapy."2
"Nursing: Patients should be advised not to breast feed if they are taking SEROQUEL."2
"Concomitant Medication: As with other medications, patients should be advised to notify their physicians if they are taking, or plan to take, any prescription or over-the-counter drugs."2
I apologize for not being familiar with Serlift so I won't offer any information in that regard. As always consult a doctor or other health care professional if you're taking medication and even considering becoming pregnant. You're likely to get good answers on Yahoo! but those will be mixed indistinguishably with the bad advice.

Q: Do any of you order your Seroquel on-line? What is a good site to order from without a prescription?
I'm afraid I'll get fake stuff. I'm about to run out of mine, and the waiting lists to see a pych are like 2-3 weeks. So I'm going to order it online. Does anyone have any good expierences with ordering Seroquel online without a perscription? Which site do you use?
A: You really should not do this. I saw a TV special on the places where some drugs are manufactured that people buy over the internet. It is not safe. Other chemicals get mixed in with them.
Call your doctor. They can give you a prescription, samples, or tell them you need an appointment sooner.
Seroquel is a serious medicine that should not be taken lightly.
Q: How long does it take for seroquel 100 mg take to make you tired?
Just took seroquel tonight at 9pm...now 10pm my time. Never took it before. how long will hate to hit me and make feel tired?
A: Everyone is different. For me, Seroquel didn't even affect my sleep. I had other problems and could only handle one dose of it and could no longer take it after the one dose. Sorry I couldn't be of much help...
