Q: Question about dosage for 10mg of Cetirizine?
It says one to be taken daily for my swollen face, nothing has happened after 2 days it's got worse today can i up the dosage ?

A: A lot depends on what has caused your face to swell. If it is due to an allergic reaction, then you would expect the swelling to have gone down with the cetirizine. Sometimes however, other anti-histamines work better for some people than others. Chlorpheniramine (Piriton) is a good next step, although it can cause drowsiness. You shouldn't however up the dose of cetirizine that you are taking. 10mg daily is the maximum daily dose. If it still isn't resolving though it may be worth consulting your GP.

Q: Alergy and cetirizine dihydrochloride?
I am taking cetirizine dihydrochloride for alomost 4 years twice or thrice in a week. If I dont take this then my skin become redish and I feel itching. I want to know is this bad for health to take this medicine for long time? What can I do for this alergy problem? I am 25 years old.

A: I think your doctor can best answer this question. Since you have been taking it for so long, maybe your body has gotten use to the drug so that when you want to stop taking my you have rebound effects. Maybe you can try to decrease the doses. If you dont have smaller doeses, you can try to slowly stop taking the medication (spread out time period between doses so if you take it every other day, try every 3rd day then every 4th day). By doing this, you are not abruptly stopping the medication and your body wont be shocked. If this doesnt work, see your doctor.

Q: i have been taking CETIRIZINE and PSEUDOEPHEDRINE recently im having trouble sleeping will this be why?

A: pseudoephedrine has the side effect of sleeplessness What are the possible side effects of pseudoephedrine? Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using pseudoephedrine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: * fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat; * severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness; * easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or * increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure). Keep taking the medication and talk to your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects: * mild loss of appetite; * warmth, tingling, or redness under your skin; * feeling excited or restless; * sleep problems (insomnia); or * skin rash or itching. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Q: Has anyone taken Zyrtec (cetirizine HCL) during their pregnancy?
I am taking 5 mg of Zyrtec (cetirizine HCL) daily for my pet allergies and I am 9 weeks pregnant. If there is anyone else who has taken this drug thoughout their pregnancy and had a HEALTHY baby born, I'd love the reassurance.

A: Hi there. I'm taking 10 mg of Zyrtec and daily and I'm 24 weeks pregnant. I had the same concern as you. I have allergies to all grass, walnuts and walnut trees. I could be in my house all day long and I'll have a bad allergic reaction to my front lawn. I break out into hives, my face swells up and my throat closes. When I brought this up to both my primary doctor and my OB/GYN, they both said that it was perfectly fine and safe to take this med during pregnancy. If you really want confirmation, go ask your doctor. Good luck and congrats!

Q: any advantages of xyzal over cetirizine in terms of side effects, physicochemical properties of drug?

A: The short answer is no, not really. The long answer is that because levocetirizine (Xyzal) is just the levo- enantiomer of cetirizine (Zyrtec), it has a slightly different pharmacokinetic/dynamic profile. From what I can gather from a brief review of the literature, it's half-life is longer (due to less hepatic metabolism) and it's overall anti inflammatory effects may last longer. However, although levocetirizine has higher potency for H1 receptors, doses are generally adjusted down to prevent sedation. Levocetirizine is primarily excreted renally; dose adjustment in renal impairment is needed, similar to cetirizine. There is a suspicious lack of direct comparison between Xyzal and Zyrtec for treating allergies and urticaria, which is somewhat telling. The few that do make a direct comparison find either minimal or no differences between the two in terms of instantaneous symptom relief. The cost of the medication will probably outweigh any benefit in patient outcomes. Unless, of course, the copay for Xyzal is less than OTC cost of Zyrtec.

Q: Can Zyrtec (Cetirizine HCl) be taken daily all year round to prevent hay fever?
I asked this because my friends told me that Zyrtec can only be taken when you already have the symptoms of hay fever. I have perennial hay fever (occuring 4 to 5 times a year). I wanted to minimize, if not, get rid of the occurence.

A: Yes, I have taken it daily, year round, for over 4 years now. I find if I don't take it I get all the symptoms of allergies! I don't suffer from hay fever...but other allergies...so I still feel Yes, you can take Zyrtec daily, year round. Be sure you check with your Dr. as it can raise your blood pressure and cause other side effects/complications you might not be aware that you suffer from. Importantly, stay healthy.

Q: Is it safe to give vitamin A supplement and Cetirizine for German measles?what are these drugs for?Ans ASAP.?

A: I am not sure if those two medicines will work for German Measles, you should contact your family physician as soon as possible and your local health department. Cetirizine is a generic allergy medicine that you buy over the counter, The brand name is Zyrtec.

Q: Cetirizine hydrochloride versus levocetirizine dihydrochloride?
Usually, I'm prescribed levocetirizine (Xyzal) to treat my year-long allergies. I went to the doctor yesterday, and she prescribed me cetirizine instead. I'm not sure whether this was an accident (I specifically said I wanted levo) or whether she had decided, without telling me, to change my medication. What are the main differences between the two? I've tried lots of different types of antihistamines over the years, and Xyzal seems to work the best (none of them prevent my allergic reactions, but some supress it more than others)

A: Xyzal is very similar to cetirizine(Zyrtec). Levocetirizine is a stereoisomer of cetirizine so they are very similar in structure. In some cases, stereoisomers can have differing effects however, there is really no proven benefit in taking Xyzal over Zyrtec(cetirizine). The real reason behind Xyzal being produced is because of the recent expiring patent for Zyrtec. It is now over the counter and therefore cheaper and not as profitable. Creating Xyzal is just a reason to make an expensive new antihistamine available by prescription only that has no proven benefit over its predecessor. Try the over the counter Zyrtec and see how you feel.

Q: can i take cetirizine hydrochloride with inderal medicine?

A: Yes you can take it. However, there is a minor interaction. You may notice that when you take both of these medications, the cetirizine may make you more drowsy than usual. Be cautious with this for the first few times, to see how it will effect you. The way that this works, is that cetirizine usually does not make you drowsy because it does not get into your brain. Once cetirizine tries to get into your brain, there is a pump that pumps it right back out so it doesn't make you drowsy. However, inderal can make this pump not work as well, so more cetirizine can get into you brain without being pumped back out. This is not something to worry about, but just be aware that it is possible that cetirizine may make you more drowsy when you take them together. This may not be an issue for all people. Just monitor yourself, but everything should be fine.

Q: what is the Cetirizine hydrochloride used for?
