Q: How much does novorapid insulin reduce blood sugar by?
Hi im a 14 year old diabetic girl and i was just wondering... How much does 1 unit of novorapid make blood sugar go down by? For example if my blood sugar was 20mmol and i injected 1 unit of novorapid how much would it go down by? Thanks! *^-^*

A: every body has a different scale. The reaction of insulin and your blood sugars varies slightly depending on your body. For me one unit corrects my insulin levels by about 40 -50 points. But I sometimes have days where I am more or less resistant to the insulin. You have to figure out your own scale by trial and error.

Q: Can Novorapid insulin injections cause stomach muscles to be painful?
not necesarilly just novorapid, levemir too.can they? novorapid and levemir needle pens are for type 1 diabetes users like me. I've recently started using them and not only has my stomach muscles(the areas whee i have injected before) stiffen they've also become quite painful, especially when i bend over or press my stomach. have any of you experience the same thing?Help please i dont know what 2 do

A: i was on novorapid injections for a year until about a year and a half ago when i went on the insulin pump, which also uses novorapid, and i have never had any problems with saw muscles, unless i have either done it too close to my belly button, ribs or hips, or if i have kept doing it in the same place and start getting lumps. hope I've helped in some way.

Q: what should I do ?I mistakenly injected 30 unit of novorapid insulin instead of glargine?
it is urgent .no doctor avaiable. Iget normally 5 unit of novorapid before meal and 30 unit of glargine for 24 hours.

A: i think you are not in trouble because you are still alive you still manage to ask yahoo answers .but wait until you collapsed because of severe hypoglycemia. next time careful ,and do not forget to consult your endocrinologist.

Q: How long can i keep the novorapid flexpen out of the fridge?

A: I use Novalog Flexpen. I use one until gone or one month, usually it's empty in about seven days. Then replace it with another. You should use rapid Novalog for up to one month outside of cold storage. I carry mine around in my briefcase or attached to my belt. I don't care about other people's opinion when they see me shot up. I'm the one with diabetes. They can learn to live with me. If you don't use the flexpen - unopened and unused - you can kept them in a fridge for up to one year. I tried it once, it lasted about six to seven months then it became "stale" - it did not work as effective as fresh. So consider that when you keep it for longer periods and also check you bg frequently when you do use "old" stuff.

Q: Does Anyone Take Novorapid & Levemir?
Hey is Anyone Here On Levemir and Novorapid. I am Interested To Know How Much You Take at Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Before Bed? I Take BREAKFAST - 32 (Levemir) & 12 (Novorapid) LUNCH - 14 (Novorapid) DINNER - 20 (Novorapid) BEFORE BED - 38 (Levemir) I Take My Levemir in Half Because My Body Needs So Much and Taking 70 Units at a Time Really Damages My Injection Sites and Makes It Really Sore.

A: My daughter is on Levemir and Novolog. It depends on how much carbs she eats on how much Novolog she gets (1:20 ratio) for each meal. She takes 6 units of Levemir just before bed.

Q: Do i register to get an insulin pump?
Im 15 and have had diabetes for 3 year now. Im on insulin injections(Novorapid and Lantus) but i dont do my insulin regularly has i dont like injections constantly. Ive been reding up about pumps and they sound like the perfect thing for me. I should also add that i was in ICU with ketoacidosis at christmas. I just wanted to know what the criteria is to get an insulin pump and do you have to pay for them in the UK and how it works etc please and thank you!

A: You don't usually have to pay for an insulin pump but there is a long waiting list. There is a course that the doctor can send you on that helps you to regulate your lifestyle, food intake and insulin levels. My friend's son went on this course, while waiting for an insulin pump and he is now living a normal life (with insulin). Before this he was often in hospital. So it is good to speak with your clinic and find out your options.

Q: I have Type 1 diabetes, can Glucophage be taken with or in place of Novo Rapid?
I have type 1 diabetes for 25yrs I take 24u of Lantus once a day and Novo rapid to suit carb intake approx 20u a day, recently a diabetic doctor in Middle East advised me to stop taking the Novorapid and start with one 500mg Glucophage at lunchtime, this to me seems so Alien and I am not sure if I should follow his advice, any ideas?

A: Type 1 Diabetes is pretty rare outside of the US, Canada, and Northern Europe. There is a chance your doctor from the Middle East has never treated a patient with type 1. Do not follow his advice if you value your health.

Q: When should I eat meal? When my BS is high before meal and I take some more insulin for correction?
When my blood sugar is normal I eat my meal about 15 minutes after injection of Novorapid insulin. But if my BS is high before meal I get some more insulin for correction but when I should eat my meal .15 minutes later or I should wait more? thanks for yr kind answers. A DIABETIC

A: True, you should ask your doctor, but some doctors won't recommend anything that a study hasn't confirmed, so here's my two cents ... I've been Type 1 for 30 years (since age 11), and have avoided any major complications (so far, knock on wood). I firmly believe that when your sugar is already high, it's best to wait and let it come down before eating more carb's. The way I figure it, every minute your sugar is high, it's doing cumulative damage to your body (and the higher it is, the worse effect it has), so best to wait. How long you wait would depend on how high it is, how much insulin you've taken, and what you do while you wait. (You can speed up the absorption quite a bit by taking the shot in your leg and walking around.) Anyhow, you can figure it out by taking more tests every 15 min's or so, then be ready to eat the regular carb's of your breakfast when it gets down close to normal levels. Of course, you have to keep a close eye on your sugar and not wait too long to eat (and of course, as always, have handy more concentrated sweets than you could ever need, just in case). Since not being able to eat can be very frustrating when you're hungry at breakfast time, while you wait you might consider eating something that doesn't have hardly any carbs -- like eggs or, say, salad!

Q: my hubby is a type 1 diabetic and only eats once a day, he seems to think this is ok, is he wrong?
my husband is newly diagnosed type 1 diabetic and only eats once a day, and generally only has his insulin (novorapid) with that one meal. I think he should be eating more through out the day so that he can have his required breakfast, lunch and dinner insulin doses. his sugar levels seem to be fine but im worried if he keeps skipping meals it could only make things worse. He is the only diabetic i know and im just looking for some advice, thanks.

A: This will cause complications if continued over a long period of time. Diabetes needs to be monitored closely and on average should have something to eat every three hours. He should be eating more meals, I don't eat breakfast but still take insulin to cover myself being high. His body is probably still producing a small portion of insulin and soon he will require more insulin. He really should talk to a dietitian and endocrinologist to find out what he needs to do. But all diabetics need to watch what they eat and should eat regularly to stop any complications later in life. I take 4 injections a day and I have been doing so for 12 years. I watch how many carbs I put in as to how much insulin I take, but even if I don't eat, I still have to give myself some insulin to cover my body going into hyperglycemia. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you need any advice.

Q: what will happen if I keep my insulin in use in the fridge?
in the brochure of Novorapid insulin is written dont keep insulin in use in fridge keep it in room temperature for 28 days .I use to keep my insulin in fridge. does it cause problem? Thanks for the answers

A: Hi It depends. Do as directed on the brochure.

Q: How can I control again my diabtes .I am type I use 25 unit glargine at bed time and5-7unit aspart bfore meal.?
My diabetes was well-controlled but from the time I got a cold it is out of control I am getting antibiotic for infection but my sugar in very high although I double my aspart (novorapid)insulin I didnt change the glargine dosage should I change it ? How many? THE DOCTORS ARE OUT OF REACH. The doctors are not avaiable so I need your advice|

A: Your body is less receptive to insulin when you are sick. You must speak to your endocrinologist to determine which insulin you need to increase and by how much.
