Q: I am training to be a pharmacy technician. What is the best way to learn...a book, internet, or what?
Should I buy a textbook on eBay or is there internet websites or what?
Obviously some laws and regulations vary from state to state, but as far as I know Oregon (where I'm from) is fairly normal and most laws applicable here are the same or simliar in other states...
So where do I study? I am working, but I am working for a pharmacist whose never had a tech, so he doesn't know much either. So...what should I do?
A: If you want to be a pharmacy technician in a community pharmacy then I would just take the pharmacy tech test in your state. It's mainly a calculations based test with conversion questions (e.g. how many mL in 8 ounces? or how many days supply for a particular SIG and quantity). If you need help or practice with these questions, the APHA pharmacy technician calculation book is pretty good. I think there's another book by Appleton and Lange that helps you prepare for the pharmacy technician exam as well. There are also some questions on basic pharmacy law on the exam. good luck.

First Alternative:
If you are experienced in your line of work, especially in pharmacy, how good are you at writing articles for issues on health, medicines, supplements? Basically your strengths will be pretty much in demand. You can apply to be a writer at http://www.elance.com and bid for offers to write articles for people. Many website owners need a lot of content to publish on the internet and you could be just the person they need. Check out that website.
Second Alternative:
You can find out what are the pressing problems that people have for their health, vitamins and supplements questions and
then provide solutions by writing an ebook (Digital book) and then selling it on the internet, maybe on websites like http://www.amazon.com, or http://www.ebay.com. Or you can create your own website and get people to come and buy from your website.

Things to avoid:
I have seen some websites that tells you that you can earn money from home by doing surveys and getting some online jobs but you have to pay them some money up-front first. Avoid this! So far, nothing good has come out from all these. You can do surveys for cash but it will never be enough to be a full time income potential.

Q: is it safe to get painkillers via mail from internet pharmacies?
my pain meds are very expensive is it unwise to buy oxycontin over the net? will cops bust my door down?
A: I would say to avoid using the internet to fill your oxycontin. It's a strong narcotic, as I'm sure you are aware of, but your doctor feels you need it to remedy your medical situation at this time. I feel the safeguards established by having your own pharmacist fill the script are sometimes nonexistent when having the internet fill it. Does the internet site know of any/all medications you are taking in addition to the oxy, do they know of any pre-existing conditions or your past medical/psycological history? I've never had a script filled from an internet site, so I'm not an expert on this; just using common sense. Not having the means to pay for the script...now I HAVE been down that road before. With the current health care/insurance problems we have in this country, you can count yourself lucky if you HAVEN'T had a problem paying for your prescriptions!! My pharmacist is the one who gave me info on places that would help pay for prescriptions..your town (not State) usually has some group covering medical issues (and expences!!) for their residents; also, the Salvation Army will pay for your prescriptions (who'd a thought those little bells...)!! The only thing they both stipulated was giving them the name of the pharmacy filling your prescriptions on a regular basis, having you drop off the prescriptions and letting the pharmacy know what was goiing on (embarassing but necessary and believe me you're not alone!). Actually, they paid for ALL of my prescriptions once a month. In other words, you had to submit all your scripts all at once so they could pay the pharmacy once per month (or however they work it). The town AND the "Army" even offerred to deliver them to my door if I had any problems with transportation!! Can't beat that with a stick, my grandmother used to say...hoping you are at least free from pain and worry. Happy Holidays!
Q: Will Kaiser pay for my hydrocodone if I buy it from the internet?
I have broken T9 and T11 in my back. My stiff upper lip keeps Kaiser doctors from perscribing me the medication I need and I don't feel like making demands like a crackhead or kissing butt on incompitants outside of work.

A: being that this is a controlled substance, your insurance probably won't cover it unless you're physically seen by the physician that writes the prescription.
this is very frustrating and i'm sorry the dr's aren't being more sympathetic to your situation and doing what they can to maintain your comfort and pain control.
i would just keep switching doctor's to get more opinions and the meds you think you need. it's your body and only YOU know what type of pain you are having.
worse case scenario-report to the er if you are in severe pain and need the pain meds. it's against the law for them not to treat you and the er dr can write you a script for the meds (usually will only give you about a week's worth though then advise you to follow up w/your reg dr).
insurance companies suck and it irritates me that they think they know enough about us to make decisions on our healthcare needs from a desk, several hundred miles away!!

A: I don't think it's possible to do that over the internet. Just keep calling different pharmacies - maybe try calling hospital pharmacies as well. If all else fails, any pharmacy can get it for you within 24 hours if they don't already have it.

A: There are on line pharmacies that are reputable. There are many that are scams. Please go to your doctor and get a prescription. If it costs you money and then harms you it is a problem. If you need assistance because you do not have insurance there are many programs available to help you. Fake medications look real these days. Bottles look real and so do tablets and capsules, but the have harmful ingredients. These products are worse than simple sugar pills because they are trying to make them look real and they do whatever they can to make them look real. This means using street stripe paint and floor wax if necessary. Conditions are bad. Sometimes other drugs are used because they look alike.
