Q: Will Entocort cause the same weight gain as Prenisone?
I have Crohn's. I was on Prednisone and had the "moon face" and all that weight stuff. I am in another flare and asked that my doctor not use Prednisone because I have a school reunion next month and recently lost over 20 pounds, and would like to look decent. Any experience with similar weight gain on Entocort and how long until you start to notice a difference in your bowel habit?

A: Corticosteroids all have more or less the same side effects.

Q: If I were to take Entocort EC (3mg) and Nexium (40mg) at the same time each morning, would they interact?
I take the entocort for Crohn's and the nexium for acid reflux. I am just not entirely sure if i should take them at the same time. Since the nexium isnt another cortico steroid, i think it might be ok, but its always good to make sure. Please list your qualifications when you answer. Thank you

A: megan answer is right but she misses small thing in the last a advice that nexium is really PPI (proton pump inhibitor )contain esomeperazole it is advanced molecule with outstanding result and it is not H2 blocker as ranitine

Q: Can anyone tell me about their experiences when coming off entocort for Crohns/Colitis?

A: Hi, I just answered your other question, but I will answer this one too. I was not on them long term, but I reacted quickly to them and had some allergy issue with something in the medication. Anyway, I found that the lower the dose, the easier it was on my body. I still had hives at 3 mg per day, but by the time I got to every other day it was a lot better. I stopped having mood swings and sadness. My appetite stayed the same for about 3-4 days after. Are you going on Asacol as you go off? Everyone I talk to says that helps. I am not able to tolerate Asacol either (woe to me!) so I can't speak from experience. I have heard that after Entocort, Asacol is a walk in the park, but you have to take the pills 3 times a day! Good luck with weaning, I hope you do well!

Q: I am on Entocort for Crohns disease - will the side effects (stretch marks) go away after I come off the drug?
Also - will I be able to lose weight again?

A: hi just, i am a crohn's pt. like yourself and have stretchmarks. Try coco butter on them. As for getting rid of weight gain, I cut out sweets, junk food, and just ate heathy when I feel good. Soft or mushy food when flaring. Check out CCFA's site (crohn's and colitis foundation) for more information.

Q: I have crohn's disease and was wondering what are your sxs taking entocort?
i have been feeling realllly nausea, light headed, and short of breathe. i kind of feel like i am going to pass out. i was wondering if anyone else had this happen to them? i am taking 6mg and just started today with 3mg to see if that would help. helppp

A: I am not entirely sue how to spell it but I was taking Asacol and Prednazone, for about 9months, and I started getting those symptoms as well. Frankly I got tired of it. So i stopped taking the Prednazone, and that helped some. But I was still always grumpy and poofy, like water weight. I ended up talking to my shaklee rep, (shaklee.com) and she helped me pick out some organic alternatives for my body type, Eventually I stopped taking the Asacol as well.(with my Dr.s Approval!) and I had to totally change my way of eating and started going on long walks daily. I was 17 when I was diagnosed and I am now 22 and I have had a bill of health from my Dr. since 2005. I really hope this helps.Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions that you think I can help with.

Q: What kind of side effects can I expect from Entocort EC?

A: a puffy face and neck :( and maybe you will get crabby

Q: For treatment of Crohn's Disease (vs. Ulerative Colitis), do you recommend Prednisone or Entocort?
Since Crohn's affects the whole digestive system (rather than the more localized areas in UC), I was wondering if any of you CD patients have had better (or at least adequate) flare treatment on Entocort, rather than on Prednisone. I'd love it if my daughter with CD could be treated with something other than Prednisone... Thank you.

A: I've had CD for about 10 years now. I was put on Entocort about a year and a half ago, and i love it! I have only had 2 flares since i've started taking it, and only had to be hospitalized for one. When the flares get acute, my doc puts me on the prednisone along with the entocort, but thats usually just for a two week period till everything calms down. As far as using Entocort for maintanence, i can't say anything bad about it - I love it, its like a miracle drug to me!

Q: After I come off of Entocort for my Crohns disease - will the moon face go away?

A: It should go away, but you may have to work like crazy to get the extra weight off. Personally, I was unable to tolerate it. I had horrible hives from my hairline to my trunk, and had terrible mood swings and sadness. I had to take benadryl and wean myself off as fast as it was safe to do so. Good luck, they were still a lot easier on my body than prednisone.

Q: why can't you have grapefruit with entocort?
what are the side effects of eating grapefruit while on Entocort?

A: thats endocort. grapefruit [or its juice] has negative effects on many drugs. cut it out of your diet.

Q: ii you take a second Entocort tablet by mistake, what can happen?
ENTOCORT EC 3 MG CAPS

A: "The most common side effects of ENTOCORT EC are headaches, infection in your air passages (respiratory infection), nausea, and symptoms of hypercorticism (too much steroids in your body). Symptoms of hypercorticism may include an increase in the size of the face and neck, acne and bruising. Most symptoms of too much steroids in your body occur less often with ENTOCORT EC than with other corticosteroids." from http://www.entocortec.com/Patient/ So I would think this would be overdosing. It shouldn't show up immediately however. But you might want to call your doctor.

Q: My doctor took me off Entocort for IBD and I think I am relapsing. What should I do?

A: It sounds like you got off of the steriods too soon. IBD can take several months to completely heal. Though it is not necessary to take steriods the whole time, you do need to get past a certain point before going off of them. If you are relapsing, you haven't crossed that threshold yet. I'd go back to your doctor and start the treatment over again.

Q: What is entocort?
i have foveolar hyperplasia , a rare disease, and the firts medicein the doctor did help..so now we are trying entocort..i was wondering if this will make me gain weight and will it make me gain muscle with workout liek illegal steroids?

A: Entocort is a corticosteroid. Yes, it can make you gain weight. No, it will not make you gain muscle mass. Muscle mass is gained from a line of steroids known as anabolic steroids. Entocort is not an anabolic steroid. Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory hormones used to treat all sorts of inflammation such as bowel disorders (most common usage), asthma, joint injuries, etc.

Q: Anyone with Crohn's ever used Entocort?
My girlfriend has Crohn's and her doctor recommended Entocort. We're trying to find out as much about it as we can, is there anyone out there who has used Entocort before? She had a very bad experience with Prednisone and is not looking to repeat it.

A: hi justin, i am a female crohn's pt. for 28 yrs. I have been on Entocort since it first came out. No side effects like steroids at all. I am very happy with this newer medication seeing as it doesn't get absorbed into the bloodstream at all. It goes directly to the inflammation and gets it under control. for more info, check out the crohn's & colitis foundation website. They have tons of info on meds, diet, surgery, plus they have a medical hotline, a live chat, and a forum where you can post questions to others in the same situation. good luck to your gf.

Q: Crohns and entocort? please help :)?
I have crohns and my doctor decided to try and put me on entocort instead of prednisone because he knows i won't take it . but the thing is its still a steroid i think and i didn't not like the wait gain effect it had on me. Will Entocort do this same effect ? any help will be greatly appreciated . please and thank you .

A: Pharmacokinetics of budesonide (Entocort EC) capsules for Crohn's disease. This overview summarises available pharmacokinetic data on budesonide capsules (Entocort EC), approved for the treatment of mild-to-moderate active Crohn's disease involving the ileum and/or ascending colon and for prolongation of symptom control. Budesonide is a locally-acting glucocorticosteroid with an extensive, primarily hepatic, metabolism after oral administration. It is rapidly absorbed and biotransformed by cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A to metabolites with negligible glucocorticoid activity. Entocort EC, a pH- and time-dependent oral formulation of budesonide, was developed to optimise drug delivery to the ileum and throughout the colon.

Q: Entocort and Colitis?
I just started entocort for ulcerative colitis. How long does it usually take to work and it is effective for colitis?

A: They say it takes a couple of months to start working because it is slow acting. My personal opinion is that it's different for everyone. When I took it I felt a difference within a couple of weeks. Entocort was my miracle drug!! However, long term uses can bring on some undesired side effects such as acne, flushed face, and stretchmarks. I became dependent on Entocort and could not get off of them. I had to start Imuran to get off of them. How many pills are you taking? But it sure beats being on Prednisone ^_^ Good luck, I wish you a quick remission.
