Q: Risperdal?
Has anyone had good or bad experiences with Risperdal? I'm doing some research for a friend who's child has impulse control, we're wanting to know both sides.
A: I am bipolar and I took it for a little while to help me relax/sleep. I didn't like the way I felt after taking it. It made me puffy and gave me headaches! I wouldn't give it to my child.
Q: anyone use risperdal off label for depression anxiety disorders? what were your side effects?
little nervous about risperdal as it appears to be approved for serious disorders? my doc is trying it for anxiety and depression. any experiences good or bad ?
A: I hope that your doctor is a psychiatrist - as this anti-psychotic is a pretty powerful psychiatric drug, therefore only they should prescribe. The use of anti psychotics to treat anxiety & related illness is increasing. Risperdal isn't really a first choice in depression though, because it is one of the more depressant anti-psychotics, there are better ones out there. Personally I don't think that anti psychotics should be used for any, except the most serious mental illness, they are far too harsh a drug to treat every mental distress. I believe that they're not being prescribed for depression, but for anxiety. You could easily take benzodiazepines such as valium, for this. I refused risperdal for bipolar, with psychosis, after bad experiences with olanzapine & seroquel, once mood stabilisers kicked in the psychosis went. Try breathing techniques, yoga etc for anxiety; try to steer clear of psychotropic meds unless you are psychotic!
Q: Still have anxiety while on Zoloft and Risperdal?
I have major depressive disorder w/ psychotic features. I have been on zoloft for 3 months and Risperdal for a month, but however those drugs only helped out my anxiety a little. Do I need an increase in dose or do i need to take anti-anxiety medication?
A: Sometimes you may need to add benzodiazepine on a short term basis till these drugs become fully effective. The issue is Benzo's have a very high addition and habituation potential , hence should be withdrawn after they are no more required. Consult you psychiatrist and see if he can add either Lorazepam ( Ativan ) or Klonopin to your prescription.
Q: Can alcohol be mixed with Zoloft and Risperdal?
I am going to a club tomorrow night and there is going to be a lot of drinking. I don't want to feel awkward or left out. I am taking 100 mg of Zoloft and .25 mg of Risperdal. How much is too much?
A: No no no. Don't drink any alcohol. It will have adverse reactions to your medications. It can really exemplify the side effects of those medicines. Even just a little bit of alcohol. A couple of weeks ago I just had a few sips of beer, and it had me so totally out of it. Making the drowsiness side effect of my mental health meds become really prominent. Be really careful. I strongly advise to stay far away from the bottle. If possible, don't go to the club.
Q: how to lose the weight gained from Risperdal?
i have gained a lot of weight from it. will stop taking Risperdal make me lose the weight i have gained? I don't eat that much in the first place. It is definitely the Risperdal. I have been taking it for a couple of years. what are some tips of losing the weight i gained?
A: Sorry that you are suffering this side effect. Im going to keep a watch on this thread because I too take this prescription drug and have gained weight so that I now look very rotund... its such a pain. Did you see your doctor about it and what did they say? Ive been told not to stop taking it even though Im on a low dosage.
If you are noticing a small, unexplained weight gain with Risperdal, there are some things that you can do. Some suggestions include:
Eating a heart-healthy diet. This diet should include heart-healthy foods, such as:
o Lots of fruits, vegetables, grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products
o Lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts.
Limiting foods with saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, sodium (salt), and added sugars.
Participating in regular physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day on most days of the week.
Limiting your intake of alcohol.
Q: Are there all-natural replacements for the drug Risperdal?
What vitamins or holistic regiments can I go on to get myself off of Risperdal. I hate this drug.
A: I was on risperdal so I know how you feel. Have you tried abilify? So far since the two weeks I've been on it I've noticed very few side effects and I'm less hungry. Also consider this logic. If there was an all natural remedy that compared to an anti psychotic I think it would be on the market and would be very popular. As it is I have never heard of such a all natural replacement. So, yeah, so if you can give abilify a try. But whatever you do I wouldn't go off your meds without the supervision of your pdoc. Peace!
Q: Does anybody have experience with coming off risperdal?
Im trying tto get off risperdal, and I'm feeling kinda funny. Anxious and whatnot. Also, if anyone can tell me about their experience on risperdal i would appreciate it.
A: I have been on Risperdal. I was taking 4 -5 mgs. I was always tired and I think it made me depressed. I also gained weight on it. It did help with the racing thoughts I had. It also took care of the psychotic symptoms I had.
I slowly weened myself off. If you do it to fast, you might have withdrawal symptoms. Also, do not go off your meds without consulting your doctor.
Good luck!
Q: Born again christian about to take risperdal?
I prayed for god to make these drugs work my brain back to the way it use to be when i was happy.I hear voices and stuff and i prayed for these pills to work.Anyone ever have a miracle on risperdal?
A: I have been on Risperdal and it does stop the voices in your head.
As with all antipsychotics you need to take the lowest effective dose to avoid any side effects.
Q: How long until risperdal consta starts to kick in and work?
I just got injected today and was told 3 weeks until it starts to work. That seems like a while. Any chance it starts working before then?
A: It may. The time it takes for a medicine to work varies from person to person.
Q: Should I take risperdal and ignore the side effect?
My doctor told me I have to take risperdal but the problem is I have a side effect. I am lactating and producing prolactin. I may not have my period because it like I am pregnant. But I am not.
Should I listen to my doctor?
A: I also take risperdal, but I'm a male. I know the side effects are bad so you have to weigh the good with the bad. Does it relieve symptoms or not? You should ask your doc about getting on a different med. I know there are other meds that can do the same thing without the lactating effect. I'm not a doctor I just know from my own personal reading. So talk to your doc or otherwise just listen to him and continue taking your meds.
Q: Can you tell me anything about a drug called risperdal?
a family member is in hospital, not sure what to make out of conversation. Was told he was put on a drug called risperdal, wondering if this has anything to do with conversation?
A: IT MAKES YOU EXTREMELY TIRED, CAUSES YOU TO SLOW DOWN THOUGHTS, MAKES YOU BORED, ANXIOUS, MUSCLE TWITCHING, LOWER HORMONE LEVEL, ALSO THOUGHTS OF SUICIDE INCREASE, IT GIVING TO PEOPLE WITH MENTAL DISABILITIES.
Q: What is Risperdal for when given in small doses and should it make you very sleepy?
My fiance is taking .5 mg twice a day. He has only been taking it for 3 days but is very tired and disoreinted. He is not schizo or bipolar- but he is suicidal and has a lot of rage.
A: Risperdal (or Risperidone) is an anti-psychotic medication that is given to individuals to assist with psychotic symptoms, as well as with aggression, suicidality, and significant hyperactivity. Your fiance should call his doctor if his side effects do not improve. His doctor will have more information about why he or she prescribed this, and should have also discussed potential side effects and what to do about them. You might also try looking up Risperdal on WebMD or Yahoo Health for other basic information. It can make people tired. Have your fiance keep a log of his symptoms and to rate them on a scale of 1 to 10.
Q: How long does it usually take for your body to adjust to the medications Risperdal?
I just began takingthis medication on Friday, along with Celexa, and i get very sleepy. I would like to know how long it takes for your body to adjust thus come out of this *knocked out* phase of it.
A: It can take anywhere from 2 to 3 months for your body to adjust....it also depends on your body size and the doage amount....if you feel real sluggish then contact your doctor he/she may need to adjust to a lower dosage. Only you know how the medication is making you feel so you need to always communicate with your dr to make sure of the appropriate amount for you. good luck
Q: Risperdal causing me to have difficulties in school?
I am currently in college taking the business management program and taking 1.5mg of risperdal. It causing me major problems. I cant write essays. I have problems memorizing stuff in text books. What should I do? Should I stop taking the medicine?
A: Don't change ANYTHING without talking to your doctor! If it was a drug for a simple allergy or mild depression, it might be OK to expriment on your own.
But this is a serious med for serious conditions, and it would be much wiser to look for ways to study more effectively than messing with the medicine.
Q: If I go off my risperdal will I go back to my normal weight?
I am currently taking risperdal to stabilize my mood and I am thinking about stopping taking it because I have gained 20 pounds. The thing is its not even working so I think I need another medication. My question is if I go off of it will I go back to my normal weight or will I have to exercise it off?
A: You will have to exersize it off. But do not stop taking it without talking to your doctor. He or she may have better ideas for you to do, and they may also have an idea about what to do with the weight.
Good luck!
